Single With No Mingle

Outside of Christmas and Valentine’s Day being without significant others can be a relatively positive experience. Though watching Netflix alone, with your dog for three days straight can be quite an earth shattering type of loneliness, using that time to find yourself will allow you to discover your own likes and dislikes such as romance and punctuality. When you're in a relationship often-times we can lose our sense of self which can be extremely captured by one's mental health. Having the ability to live freely without expectations from others can be a great experience. In relationships, we can sometimes be forced to live up to ideas of who others think we should be. Even in healthy pairing codependency tends to become a prominent topic of discomfort. Having the ability to function in your own skin and company is the most important part of being a happy single person.

Being on your own allows you to set your own standards for living; this includes assessing your own needs and values. When you’re actively dating, you can be forced to juggle your time and your time with your significant other. Dating yourself gives you the option to live life to the fullest and focus on your own goals and achievements. According to a blog post for Psychology Today, psychologist Bella DePaulo explained that women who are single tend to be healthier. “Women who have always been single are more healthy overall than currently married women, and also have fewer sick days and fewer doctors' visits” Explained Depaulo. Those who are single tend to be better financially as well. In an analysis posted on Debt.org. Regardless of parental status”, single people have less credit card debt. "21% of single people had credit card debt, compared to 27% of married couples without children and 36% of married couples with children.". In conclusion Netflix and chilling alone even on Valentine’s Day may actually be doing you more good than harm to thrive during time of single hood.
